What exactly is screenprinting?

Screenprinting, sometimes called silk screenprinting, uses a custom prepared stencil. The part of the design that is to be printed transferred to a screen that is made up of silk, nylon or a stainless-steel mesh. This process is similar to developing a picture. Once the screen has been "burned" with the design it allows ink to pass through the area specific to the design, but not through the other part of the stencil. The stencil is contained inside a frame usually made of wood or metal. Ink is forced through the screen area with a rubber squeegee which then makes the impression on the garment. The final step is the image is set by heat into the garment and the garment is now ready for you to wear!
